Exams for Law School Admissions in 2023 - In India, formal legal education is largely available at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Students who graduated from high school in the academic year 2023-23 will be entitled to enroll in a variety of undergraduate legal courses, commonly referred to as the integrated LLB program. Graduate students can also enroll in three-year LLB and LLM program. In India, there are over 1,000 law schools. Law entrance examinations, on the other hand, are used to get admission to top-ranked institutions and universities. As a result, students interested in studying law at top-ranked law schools should be aware of the law admission tests offered by these institutions.

What is CLAT EXAM 2023?

The Consortium of NLUs administers the national Common Law Admission Test (or CLAT) for admission to 22 member NLUs' 5-year integrated LLB (UG) and one-year LLM (PG) program. UG courses are currently provided by all 22 NLUs, whereas PG courses are currently offered by 21 NLUs.

In addition to the NLUs:

CLAT test scores are accepted by 61 additional private associate institutions.

CLAT-PG results are used for recruitment by several public corporations, such as ONGC and BHEL.

CLAT - Eligibility Criteria 2023

The test is only open to Indian citizens and non-resident Indians. Foreign nationals interested in enrolling in any of the participating Law Universities' courses should contact the university directly whether seats for foreign nationals are available. The CLAT eligibility criteria are published by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) and include information on the required educational qualification, minimum marks, and age restriction.

The following are the eligibility requirements:

  • Senior Secondary School/Intermediate (10+2) or its equivalent certificate from a recognized Board with a minimum of 45 percent in aggregate (40 percent in case of SC and ST candidates). The exam does not have an upper age limit.
  • Courses for Post-Graduate Students
  • LL. B/B. L. Degree or an equivalent degree from a recognized university with not less than two years of experience

In all, more over 50% of the students received a passing grade (45 percent in case of SC and ST candidates). Candidates who passed the qualifying degree examination through supplementary/ compartment and repeat attempts are also eligible to take the test and receive admission, provided that they produce proof of passing the qualifying examination with fifty-five/fifty percent marks, as the case may be, on the date of admission or within the time allowed by the respective universities.

CLAT 2023 Application Form:

CLAT 2023 - On January 1, the Consortium of NLUs announced the CLAT 2023 online application form; the deadline to submit the form is March 31. UG applicants who received 45 percent in their 10+2 exams and PG applicants who received 50 percent in their degree exams are eligible to apply for admission; reserved category candidates receive a waiver in qualifying marks. The CLAT 2023 test will be held on May 8, 2023 by the consortium (from 3-5 pm). The test will be in pen-and-paper format, with multiple-choice questions, and will last two hours.
